About MIC
The Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council

The maritime industry is one of the major industries in Hong Kong. To consolidate Hong Kong's position as a major international maritime centre, the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council (MIC) is formed to help develop and promote the maritime industry of Hong Kong.

The MIC was re-organised from the Hong Kong Port and Maritime Board in June 2003 by the Government following the recommendation of the "Study to Strengthen Hong Kong's Role as an International Maritime Centre" as a step forward to enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of Hong Kong's maritime industry. It is a dedicated, high-level advisory body made up of private sector and Government officials to advise the Government on the formulation of measures and initiatives to further develop Hong Kong's maritime industry. It also assists the Government to promote the comprehensive maritime services provided and the edges of operating maritime business in Hong Kong.
