Terms of Reference
(1 January 2007 - 31 December 2008)

The Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council advises the Chief Executive, through the Secretary for Transport and Housing, on all aspects of sustaining and furthering Hong Kong's position as an international maritime centre, and will specifically :-

  • assess Hong Kong's maritime industry needs taking account of changing demand for maritime services, productivity and performance; and promote the competitiveness of Hong Kong relative to maritime centres worldwide;

  • coordinate the involvement of government and private sector agencies in strengthening and promotion of Hong Kong as an international maritime centre;

  • provide a forum for consulting parties involving in, or affected by, Hong Kong's maritime industry development;

  • conduct publicity campaigns to publicise and promote the Hong Kong maritime industry;

  • devise and recommend measures to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the maritime industry;

  • form specialist sub-groups as it deems necessary; and

  • undertake any other tasks relevant to the above as may be referred to it by the Government or the maritime industry.
